As you would know, over the last few weeks, we have been conducting a "used glasses drive" with the goal being to help someone "see" in the new year. The glasses we have been collecting were given to Adrian and Rita Thurston, from our Rochedale Campus who visited us during our 10am experience yesterday.
Adrian has put together a few words to explain a little more about their vision and where the glasses will be going....
"We have been involved in missions support for almost 30 years. In the early nineties the Lord called us to help his people in poor countries to be able to read their Bibles by giving them eye tests and supplying reading glasses. We started doing this in the former Soviet Union.
For some time now we have been unable to do the testing ourselves as we have not been able to be away from the practice in Loganholme for long enough periods of time. During this season of our lives, we have helped another Christian optometrist by supplying equipment and glasses for her to do clinics in different countries. We have also sent reading glasses with missionaries to various countries.
A new season is dawning for us soon, as in 2009 the Lord called us to move to Vanuatu to do missionary work. We will set up an eye clinic there as they have none and will use donated glasses both there and in village clinics. We will also be able to visit other countries where there are needs for God's people to be able to see His word. We have several invitations already around the world for this and will be glad to go and help people as we are released from our business here. One of the first clinics will be in Papua New Guinea with missionary friends of ours. This trip will include eye clinics and ministry to the people as well as preaching and praying for the sick which is dear to our hearts".
Thank you to all who donated their glasses for this worthy cause... how exciting to be a part of enabling someone in Vanuatu to "see" in the new year, and read His Word!

Please continue to pray for Adrian and Rita as they step out in faith and continue to follow Him as he leads them as they are released from their business here and plan to head oversea's to minister in Vanuatu (and beyond!) impacting people for Christ.
